Wiki-Interiors

This project was titled Parasite, and the objective was quite literal: we were asked to design a project that could invade and take over a space just like a parasite, and be dismantled without a trace. We picked a client we knew and used their needs and profile to pick a spot on campus and proposed a design. My client was a professor from another department in our college and he requested a design that catered to his department and students since they didn't have a designated space in our college building. My approach was to take the basics from the WikiHouse system in Open-Sourced architecture, and alter it into interiors and transformable furniture. The system was designed to be so open ended that it was able to be used for everything from aid relief housing to commercial spaces, offices, and residences.

The system was then fitted to occupy one of the larger studio spaces in our college building. The various configurations allow for classrooms to pop up and be taken down, allowing the space's original program as a teaching and exhibition space to remain undisturbed. The larger structures were added as professors' offices and storage and/or display areas. The ceiling system was an addition that responded to the program on the floor, and allowed for filtering the air conditioning and lighting. There were some risks taken with the design where the boundaries of the space were pushed in plan, and some of the offices occupy both interior and exterior space, blurring inside and outside space and creating visual connections to both through the use of sand-blasted glazing.
