Pod Hotel Sharjah

The largest project and certainly the most trying endeavor of my college career. The Pod Hotel Sharjah was an 8-storey hypothetical building with the constricting dimensions of 52x12m. The parameters called for a hotel design that included a lobby, a restaurant, a terrace, and as many rooms as possible, along with all the back-of-house facilities making sure to pay special attention to accessiblity. My plan of attack was to take inspiration from Japanese pod hotels and adapt them to local culture and the clientelle that the site would yield. Thematically, I went with a pseudo-Japanese style and designed a cocoon of sorts within the busy Heart of Sharjah district by creating custom textures and materials palletes. The various areas of the building create a flux between calm textures and excited tension. The design allows for the introduction of a partially self-service facility, a concept that is relatively new to the region.
