Using Light as an Abstract Form-Generator

This was my first interior design studio project, and my first brush with the layers of intricacies designing a space demands. For the assignment, we were given a select number of pieces of determined shapes and sizes and assigned a classroom in our college building to use as our base. We were then instructed to create an abstract composition using light as our guiding principal, while keeping concerns like circulation and accessibility in mind. For my approach, I was inspired by a willow tree and I created a hierarchy using the size of the pieces. My approach was to manipulate the existing ceiling lights by creating lightwells with the pieces and therefore marking my circulation path with light patterns. I used rotating lights and designed my composition so that the pattern changes as the light moves, but the design intention remains the same.
Produced: 2012, Second year of University
Method: Suspend the given pieces as lightwells and reflective surfaces to mark circulation paths
